Volleyball Secures Two Dominant Victories
BATAVIA, NY - The Genesee Community College volleyball team has been on a tear, bringing in two dominant victories over the past weekend. The Cougars showcased their offensive and defensive strengths in back-to-back wins against SUNY Broome Community College and Jamestown Community College.
In their matchup against SUNY Broome Community College, the Cougars displayed a well-rounded performance across the board. The team's serving was a major contribution, with Holly Bykowski leading the way with 5 aces, followed by Sloan Jonathan with 3 aces.
The offense was balanced and effective, with multiple players contributing to the attack. Kylee Kolbash, Hayley Eaton, and Gabriella Zitz each recorded 5 kills, while Olivia Senf added 4. Setters Kaylee Burns (9 assists) and Ashley Blair (8 assists) were crucial in distributing the ball and creating opportunities for the hitters. On defense, Holly Bykowski led the team with 14 digs, and Sloan Jonathan chipped in with 9.
Genesee continued their momentum in the next game, with a strong showing against Jamestown Community College. The Cougars' victory was highlighted by an outstanding offensive performance from Kylee Kolbash, who led all players with 10 kills and added 5 aces from the service line.
The team also put up a formidable defensive front at the net. Gabriella Zitz was a force with 4 total blocks, while Hayley Eaton added 2 blocks and Michaela Hartter and Felix Espada each contributed one. The setting was once again precise, with Kaylee Burns dishing out 11 assists and Ashley Blair tallying 5.
The Cougars will take on Corning's Red Barons on Tuesday, September 9th at 6:00 PM at home.
