Softball sweeps Herkimer in double header
Game 1:
Genesee Softball defeated Herkimer College 7-6 on Saturday in a back-and-forth walk-off victory. With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh, Van Der Jagt hit an infield single to drive in the winning run.
Ryan led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two stolen bases. Van Der Jagt also recorded three hits, while Scharfen and Milles contributed key RBIs to help Genesee overcome early deficits. The Cougars showed great discipline at the plate, drawing six total walks, led by O'Connell and Crowley with two each.
Fronterhouse earned the complete-game win, pitching all seven innings. She struck out seven batters and navigated through a tough Herkimer lineup to keep the Cougars within striking distance for the final rally.
Game 2:
The Genesee Cougars offense exploded for 25 hits in a 20-10 win over Herkimer College on Saturday. Scharfen and Ryan led the way, each recording five hits and four RBIs. The highlight of the day was a massive fourth inning where Genesee scored 12 runs on 12 hits, featuring a three-run triple by Ryan and a three-run home run by Scharfen.
The Cougars showed speed and discipline on the bases, totaling six steals, and four from Ryan alone. Key contributions came from across the lineup, with O'Connell, Wells, Leisge, and DeLuke all recording multiple hits. Hibbs added to the offensive pressure by drawing two of the team's four walks.
Scharfen started in the circle and pitched four innings before Fronterhouse entered in relief to help close out the high-scoring affair.
Genesee looks to carry this momentum into their next game against SUNY Erie on Tuesday.
