HERKIMER, NY ... The Genesee Women's Soccer team took on the National tournament this evening against the #3 RCSJ Gloucester in Herkimer, NY.
The game was a defensive match agianst the two teams. The two halves would go scoreless, sending the game into overtime, where it would still go scoreless and go into double-overtime
The decisive moment came in the final minute of the second overtime. With the clock winding down and a penalty shootout looming. A foul by RCSJ would give the team a shot at the goal, where Samantha Bates would find the back of the net with an unassisted goal at the 109:31 mark. This clutch goal sealed the 1-0 victory and ended the amazing contest, sending the Cougars to the national semifinals. Genesee goalkeeper Natalie Prinzi was instrumental in the upset, securing a clean sheet by making 4 saves on 4 shots faced.
The team will advance to the Semi final round, where they will take on Dallas Brookhaven on Friday.
