Game 1:
Genesee Softball edged out Mohawk Valley Community College 6-5 on Saturday in a back-and-forth contest. After falling behind early, Genesee took a 4-2 lead in the second inning behind RBI doubles from Fronterhouse and Ryan.
The game stayed close until the seventh inning, when Mohawk Valley briefly regained the lead. Genesee responded in the bottom of the frame, using a single from Chloe Milles to tie the game before ultimately securing the victory.
Fronterhouse was a major factor on both sides of the ball. She pitched a complete seven-inning game with six strikeouts and led the offense by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Ryan and Van Der Jagt added multiple hits, while Scharfen's three walks helped the team reach a total of nine for the game. The Cougars also remained aggressive on the bases, recording four steals.
Game 2:
The Genesee Cougars lost a close 9-8 battle to Mohawk Valley on Saturday after the game went into an extra inning. Despite a massive performance from Scharfen, Mohawk Valley secured the win with a walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth.
Scharfen powered the Cougars' offense, hitting two home runs, a three-run shot in the first and a solo blast in the third. She finished the day 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Van Der Jagt also recorded three hits and multiple stolen bases, contributing to the team12 hits and six total steals.
Fronterhouse provided strong relief on the mound, throwing four scoreless innings and striking out three to keep the game tied. Defensively, the Cougars remained sharp, turning two double plays.
