AUBURN, NY – After dropping game one of a doubleheader, 11-1. the Genesee Community College baseball team bounced back behind strong pitching to defeat the Cayuga Community College Spartans, 10-2. Genesee improves to 14-8 on the season and 5-1 in NJCAA Region III Division III play.
Jayson Faynor (Lima Christian) got the win, striking out six in five innings with just one walk while middle reliever Anthony Kanaval (Dansville) recorded his third hold of the season with a strikeout and Parker Cole (Bolivar-Richburg) struck out two in the seventh.
In the first game, Jon Faynor, Fontanez (double) and Martinez had hits.
"Cayuga came to play in game 1, they were aggressive at the plate and put a nice game together with pitching and defense," said Genesee head coach Skip Sherman. "We had a better approach in the second game, but it really started with Jason Faynor. He had command of all four of his pitches and it was fun to watch him on the mound hitting his spots."
The Cougars return home on Sunday, April 7 at 1 pm as they host the Alfred State Pioneers JV.
