Kristen Schuth was named Director of Athletics at Genesee Community College (GCC) on May 1, 2013, assuming responsibility for all intercollegiate athletic programs and athletic facilities on Genesee’s main campus. On September 1, 2019, she was promoted to Assistant Vice President of Student Engagement and Inclusion while continuing her role as Director of Athletics. In this expanded executive leadership position, Schuth provides strategic oversight for Athletics, Orientation, Campus Clubs and Programming, Student Government, Commencement, and Student Housing at College Village, while continuing to lead all athletic operations.

Schuth began her career at Genesee in 2004 as head coach of the women’s softball program. By 2005, her role expanded to include adjunct faculty member in the Physical Education Department, Sports Information Coordinator, and Athletic Academic Advisor. In these roles, she developed a strong foundation in academic advising, compliance, communications, and student-athlete support. In 2010, Schuth was appointed Assistant Director of Athletics at Finger Lakes Community College, where she oversaw academic monitoring, retention initiatives, scheduling, sports information, eligibility, and compliance. She returned to Genesee in 2013 as Director of Athletics.

Throughout her tenure, Schuth has demonstrated visionary and student-centered leadership at both the institutional and national levels. She currently oversees more than 10 multi-divisional intercollegiate athletic programs, more than 200 student-athletes, and a staff of over 45 full-time, part-time, and student employees. She manages five complex budgets—including college, association, foundation, scholarship, and work-study budgets—and leads strategic planning across Athletics, Student Engagement and Inclusion, and College Village–Residence Life.

Schuth has earned a reputation as a national leader within the NJCAA. She was elected to the NJCAA Board of Regents in 2020 as the Region III representative and was elected Secretary of the NJCAA Board of Regents in 2024. She currently serves as Chair of the NJCAA Division III Softball Committee, Vice Chair of the Division III Women’s Soccer Committee, and a member of the NJCAA Eligibility Committee. She has previously served as Chair of the NJCAA Division III Oversight Committee, a member of the Governance Restructure Committee and Appeals Committee, and as Region III Chair for multiple sports including lacrosse, softball, and soccer. Within Region III, she was elected Women’s Assistant Director in 2016 and Women’s Director in 2018.

In addition to her NJCAA leadership, Schuth is highly engaged in national professional organizations. She is an active member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA), where she serves on the Executive Board and is currently the organization’s 3rd Vice President, having previously served as Secretary. She is also a member of the SUNY Athletic Directors Committee and serves on the GCC Foundation Board, while contributing to numerous college-wide committees including behavioral intervention, Title IX, child protection, commencement leadership, and accreditation steering committees.

Schuth manages the daily operations of the Richard C. Call Arena, the college’s state-of-the-art fitness center, and field house. Under her leadership, Genesee has become a premier host site for high-level competition, welcoming multiple NJCAA National Tournaments, including Men’s Lacrosse (2015), Women’s Soccer (2021), Men’s Soccer (2022), and a combined 16-team Men’s and Women’s Soccer National Tournament (2024). She has also led the successful hosting of numerous national and regional tournaments across softball, soccer, basketball, and lacrosse, as well as Section V and VI championships in cross country, basketball, and softball.

Schuth has been instrumental in elevating the visibility and reputation of Genesee Athletics. She spearheaded the creation of a comprehensive athletics website and led significant enhancements to the department’s social media and communications strategy. She also prioritizes community engagement, organizing long-standing events such as the Lions Club and Rotary Basketball Tournaments and establishing strong partnerships throughout the region.

Academically, Schuth has made student success a central priority. She developed and implemented a comprehensive student-athlete academic monitoring program that has produced a sustained upward trend in athletic GPAs, retention, and graduation rates—all exceeding those of the general student population. Genesee student-athletes have earned numerous NJCAA All-American honors, Chancellor’s Awards, and national, regional, and conference academic recognition during her leadership tenure. She has also prioritized inclusive recruitment practices, resulting in athletic rosters representing more than 15 countries.

Schuth’s achievements have been recognized through numerous professional honors. She has been named Region III Athletic Director of the Year twice (2015 and 2020–2021) and received NACDA Athletic Director of the Year honors for 2020–2021 and 2023–2024. She is a two-time recipient of Genesee Community College’s President’s Award (2018 and 2025), recognizing extraordinary service to students and the institution. In 2023, she was honored with the NJCAA’s George E. Killian Award. She has also been inducted into the Hilton High School Hall of Fame, the Chase Basketball Hall of Fame, and The College at Brockport’s Athletic Hall of Fame for her own athletic accomplishments.

Kristen Schuth holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from The College at Brockport and a master’s degree in Athletic Administration from California University of Pennsylvania. She resides in Spencerport, New York, with her husband and two children.
