Head Coach Christie M. McGee-Ross enters her eleventh season at the helm for the Genesee Cougars women's basketball program.
McGee-Ross came to Genesee after spending 11 seasons as an assistant coach and one as an associate head coach for the Purple Eagles of Niagara University. Over the course of her 12 years at Niagara, McGee-Ross was responsible for, but not limited to: guard and post play, scouting, recruiting student athletes, mentoring, conditioning, academic advisement , practice and game preparation , community service, meals, travel and whatever else was needed to help a Division I program run smoothly on a daily basis. In her 12 seasons, McGee-Ross coached numerous players who went on to play overseas professionally and whom are in the record books at Niagara. The teams McGee-Ross had a hand in finished in the Top 25 Academically eight out of the 12 years she was at the institution.
Prior to Niagara University, McGee-Ross was an assistant coach at the University at Buffalo for four years. During that time she helped lead the team to three seasons of 18 or more wins. While at Buffalo, McGee-Ross had the opportunity to start her coaching career under a very successful coach that she respects a great deal.
McGee-Ross, a junior college player herself, helped lead Hilbert College, in Hamburg, New York, to two national tournaments. In her two year career at Hilbert, she was a member of many all-tournament and all-region teams. She also helped lead her teams to a sixth and eighth place finish in the national tournament. McGee-Ross was also a Junior College softball player for Hilbert, and that team went on to an eighth place finish in the national tournament. After McGee-Ross’ short career at Hilbert, she transferred to Virginia Polytech Institution where she was plagued by injuries.
A native of Elmira, New York, McGee-Ross earned an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Hilbert College in 1989, a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Human Services with a Concentration in Early Childhood from University at Buffalo in 1995, and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Niagara University in 2002.
