The Genesee Community College's athletes of the week for the period ending April 22 are Michaela Cater from the golf team and L'Shandry Kirindongo from the baseball team.
Cater competed in a pair of golf outings for the Cougars and was the top female golfer in one event and finished second in the other. Cater carded a 119 in the upstate NY tournament with seven other teams hosted by SUNY Adirondack at the Hiland Golf Club in Queensbury, where she was the female medalist on April 21. The next day at the Batavia Country Club, Cater was seven shots back of the lead from Jamestown Community College's golfer with a 117 that was two shots better than her previous day.
Kirindongo led the Cougars last week in taking three of four games from Broome Community College with 10 hits, five RBI, five runs and three stolen bases. Of his 10 hits, three were doubles in helping his team to three Region-III wins. Kirindongo's best game of the four was the first in the series where he went 4-for-4 at the plate for almost half of the team's nine hits, scored one-third of the team's nine runs with three, added an RBI, stole a pair of bases and plated a pair of doubles of his four hits in a 9-4 win at Broome.
