FORT PIERCE, Florida: The GCC men's and women's swim teams continued through day three at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championships on Friday, competing in the 100 IM, 500 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 200 fly and the 800 free relay races.
Lyle Wagner swam to the podium two more times in individual races on Friday, finishing the 100 IM in seventh place (55.75) and the 200 fly in fifth (1:58.72). Kyle Podlaski earned a spot in the A finals of the 500 free with a morning prelims swim of 4:59.63, and finished seventh in the event with a finishing time of 4:59.39. Wagner and Podlaski teamed with Thomas Richardson and Jason Woerner to finish seventh in the 800 free relay (7:42.53) and Woerner earned an eighth place individual finish (16th overall) in the B finals of the 100 breast (1:11.11).
Islelie Silvanie earned a solo trip to the stand in the women's 100 IM, finishing the race in sixth place, the highest individual finish for the women this week, with a finishing time of 1:05.55. She was 10th overall in the 100 back (1:07.99), Miranda Dunton was fifth in the consolation swim of the 500 free (5:44.37), Heather Farrell finished 12th overall in the 100 back and MiKenna Carpenter finished 11th in the 100 breast (1:15.29).
Saturday will mark the end of the four-day championships with the final events of the week. Prelims will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the finals will begin at 5:30 p.m.
