Swimming and Diving National Championships Day One Recap

FORT PIERCE, Florida: The Genesee Community College men's and women's swimming and diving teams began day one of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championships by setting season-best times in nine out of nine races and ended the night reaching the podium a total of four times.

Lyle Wagner captured GCC's best finish of day one, earning sixth place in the men's 200 IM (1:59.38). Kyle Podlaski set the school record in the men's 1000 free during prelims and reached the podium in seventh place with a finishing time of 10:23.43 in the finals. Jason Woerner swam a season-best time in the 50 breaststroke prelims (32.06) and earned a 10th place finish in the consolation finals with a finishing time of 32.56. Denzel Flowers finished 24th in the 1000 free (21:30.11) and Thomas Richardson came in 25th in the 50 free (24.89).

Islelie Silvanie reached the podium in eighth place for the women in the 50 breast with a finals time of 33.75. Miranda Dunton swam to 11th place in the 1000 free (12:03.78), Heather Farrell came in 15th place in the 200 IM (2:44.57), MiKenna Carpenter finished 16th in the 50 free (26.20) and all four combined to reach the podium in seventh place in the 200 medley relay (2:02.01).

The Cougars are currently in seventh place on both the women's and men's side, with 44 and 32 total points respectively.
