Cougars Win Game One Against Vikings

The threat of inclement weather on Sunday pushed game one of Genesee's scheduled doubleheader against Hudson Valley CC to Saturday afternoon, and the Cougars made the most of it downing the Vikings 8-0 in five innings.

Shannon Baker made her second start of the day and tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits while striking out six.

Joelle Kaminski hit a two-run home run in the third inning for her first round trip of the season to put GCC in front 2-0.

Amanda Dow kept the scoring going in the third with a two RBI double that scored Baker and Mackenzie Weber to make it 4-0 before Cassandra Pangrazio capped off the frame with an RBI triple.

Ahead by seven in the bottom of the fifth, Genesee ended the game after Sydney Brenton drove in the final run with a single.

Dow drove in a pair on a two-hit game and Kaminski, Brenton, Kelsey Schmitt and Dani Wilshire each picked up two hits apiece.

Genesee (13-13) will play the second game of the doubleheader on Sunday at 10 a.m., weather permitting.
