No. 4 Genesee Falls to No. 2 Onondaga in Regional Finals

SYRACUSE, NY: The No. 4 nationally ranked Cougars finished runner-up at the Region III men's lacrosse tournament this weekend after falling to No. 2 nationally ranked Onondaga CC 23-15 in the finals on Sunday at OCC.

The Cougars found the back of the net first after Davis Prince scored off of an assist from Alex Henry less than two minutes into the first quarter.

Both teams exchanged goals until late in the opening frame when OCC scored six straight to take an 8-3 lead into the second.

Genesee hung tough and outscored Onondaga 5-3 to end the half and went into the break trailing 11-8.

It was all OCC in the third as the home team scored nine times in the period and held GCC to two goals to take a 20-10 lead into the fourth. The Cougars scored five times in the fourth and limited Onondaga to three goals, but the Lazers had more than enough to earn their 12th consecutive regional title.

Prince finished the game with six goals and two assists, Jacob Bomberry scored twice and added an assist, Henry finished with a goal and two assists, Sherman Williams added two goals and Pat Van Bortle and Jonah Mohawk chipped in three assists apiece.

Parker Phillips played the first three quarters in net and stopped 12 shots. Darin Eakins finished the game in the fourth and made two saves.

Chance Gates led the defense with four ground balls and two takeaways.

Genesee (12-4) will now move on to host an opening round game of the NJCAA National Tournament, which begins on May 7th. Opponent and game time to be announced.
