CANANDAIGUA, NY: The No. 4 nationally-ranked GCC men's lacrosse team capped off a two-win week on Saturday with 24-6 win at Finger Lakes CC.
The Cougars scored the first six goals of the game and led 6-0 with 8:03 left in the first quarter, but the Lakers got back into it by outscoring GCC 4-1 to end the first frame. Genesee led 7-4 after one.
Genesee closed the first half with five unanswered goals in the second to head into the break with a 12-4 lead. Jonah Mohawk scored twice in the second quarter.
It was all Genesee in the second half, which outscored FLCC 12-2 during the final 30 minutes. The Cougars controlled possession throughout the afternoon, as Mike Caternolo was 27 for 31 on face-offs.
Jacob Bomberry led the offense with eight points, scoring five goals and assisting on three. Pat Van Bortle added five goals and an assist, Davis Price assisted on four goals and scored once, Nick Lavoy tallied four goals and Mohawk finished with two goals and an assist.
Darin Eakins made eight saves in net in a complete game effort.
Genesee (9-3) will end a three-game road trip on Wednesday at Mohawk Valley CC. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
