The Genesee Community College men's lacrosse coaching staff recently announced their captains and schedule for the 2015 season. Awarded the honor of leading the Cougars this spring are sophomores James Smith (Frontier) and Joshua Wester (Livonia), and freshman Jacob Bomberry (Assumption), Reed Hnidy (Bishop James Mahoney) and Brody Jorgenson (Athol Murray).
Jacob Bomberry, an attackman, has played on the Six Nation Rebels Jr. B OLA Championship teams in 2011, 12, 13, and 14. He is the Rebels' all-time leading scorer and the captain of the 2014 team. Jacob was also a member of the U19 Iroquois National Team that played in Turku, Finland.
Reed Hnidy, a defenseman, has only been with the team for six weeks, but right away the players and coaches were very impressed with his leadership and play. He will be looked upon to lead the young defensive unit and match up with the opposing team's best attackman.
Brody Jorgenson is a redshirt freshman coming off an ACL tear last spring. He will look to lead the midfield with his tremendous athleticism.
James Smith, a midfielder, played in all 15 games last year for the Cougars. He had 15 goals, 7 assists for 22 points. Smith will be one of the top midfielders this season.
Joshua Wester played in 13 games last year at attack and was selected to the Region III All-Region Second Team. He had 22 goals, 25 assists for 47 points in his freshman campaign. Wester will switch positions this spring and play LSM.
Genesee is a member of the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) and Region III. This year's schedule is highlighted with home games against CCBC-Essex, Howard CC, Monroe CC, and Onondaga CC. Genesee will travel to SUNY Delhi and Nassau CC on its spring trip.
