The Genesee Community College men's lacrosse team will enter the 2014 season as the no. 3 team in the country following the release of the first NJCAA Top 10 National Poll. The ranking is the highest preseason ranking in school history.
The Cougars are coming off of a third consecutive trip to the NJCAA National Final Four a season ago, a year in which GCC tied a school record for most wins in a season with 15. Genesee was a perfect 4-0 in Western New York Athletic play and ranked as high as no. 2 in the country during its 2013 campaign.
GCC will return 15 sophomores and open its season at home against Jefferson Community College on March 5th. Other notable home games include WNYAC opponent Niagara County Community College on March 26th and no. 2 Nassau Community College on Apr. 5.
The Cougars earned 48 points in the first National Poll and are four points behind Nassau Community College (52). Defending national champion Onondaga Community College holds the no. 1 ranking with 60 points and the Community College of Baltimore County-Essex (44) and Hartford Community College (29) round out the top five.
