BATAVIA, NY…  Basketball players Kevin Major and Erina Ishiguro were named Genesee Athletes of the Week for the week of February 25.

Kevin Major led the Cougars men's basketball team in scoring in their last two contests, both key Western New York Athletic Conference wins against the Jamestown Community College Jayhawks and the Mercyhurst Northeast Saints. Major scored a game-high 17 points off the Cougars bench against the Jayhawks and then scoring 29 points on 11-14 shooting from the field against the Saints on Sophomore Day.   

Erina (Ellie) Ishiguro led Genesee in scoring in their WNYAC contests this week against Jamestown Community College and Mercyhurst Northeast. Ishiguro scored 10 points and collected four rebounds against the Jamestown CC Jayhawks and then scored 23 points off the bench in the Cougars win vs the Mercyhurst Northeast Saints.

Women's basketball has advanced to the NJCAA Region III Division II Basketball Tournament this coming weekend at Niagara County Community College. The Cougars will be in the semi-finals on Saturday afternoon. Men's basketball will host the Mercyhurst Northeast Saints on Tuesday night at 5:00 pm in the NJCAA Region III Division II Basketball Tournament sub-regionals.
