The Genesee Community College athletics department announced its players of the week for the week ending Oct. 20 with Miko Yamashita from the women's soccer team taking the top female honor and Rodrigo Albuquerque from the men's soccer team taking the top male honor.
Albuquerque scored a pair of goals in two wins last week and also got both game winners from penalty kicks that extended his nation-leading game-winner total to eight. He leads the nation in scoring for No. 3 Genesee, and his performance last week also earned him the National Junior College Athletic Association's D-III Men's Soccer National Player of the Week Award.
Yamashita dominated play for Genesee by being in on every Cougar goal except one in a pair of wins last week. She collected eight points from three goals and a pair of assists that included both game winners. Her six game winners on the season that has her tied-third nationally. The 2017 All-American also picked up a pair of regional and national recognitions for her performances last week as NJCAA Region-III Female Athlete of the Week and NJCAA D-III Women's Soccer National Player of the Week.
