The Genesee Community College's athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 12 are Rosalyn Sealey (Oakland Park, Fla.) from the women's basketball team and Iyad Lablack (Arles, France) from the men's soccer team.
Rosalyn led the Cougars in scoring in two contests last week with 16 points in each game for a team-high 32 points. The sophomore also recorded six rebounds and seven assists between the two games, while registering a team-high four steals against Erie.
Iyad scored the game-winning goal in the championship game to bring Genesee its first-ever NJCAA men's soccer national championship. The freshman from France led all GCC scorers by scoring the team's first and last goals in this year's national tournament last weekend. Iyad's goal in the quarterfinal game against Howard tied the contest at 1-1 and proved to be the impetus behind three unanswered goals in a come-from-behind win, while the championship game winner broke a 1-1 tie as the only goal of the second half in the title game in another come-from-behind win. In addition to being GCC's Male Athlete of the Week, Iyad was also chosen as one of Region-III's athletes of the week as well.
