The Genesee Community College's athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 29 are Julie Kommer (Williamson, NY) from the women's soccer team and Charlie Livesey (Sandbach, United Kingdom) from the men's soccer team.
Julie helped the Cougars lead a rally in their regional semifinal contest against Jamestown Community College last week that ultimately fell short, but was still impressive. Trailing by a pair of goals, Julie brought life back to the women's soccer team with a late second-half goal to bring Genesee within one goal of sending the game to overtime with about 12 minutes left in the game. In addition, she led the team in shots attempted with five and in shots on goal with four, which was nearly one-third of the team's shot total.
Charlie led all Cougars in playoff scoring with 8 points in allowing Genesee to capture the District A Division III Region 3 title. In the process, the sophomore remains the leader in assists amongst all NJCAA D-III men's soccer players and broke the single-season assists record for Genesee last week and also now shares the team lead in goals for this season. In Genesee's semifinal win against Tompkins-Cortland, Charlie registered a pair of goals and a pair of assists, and then the United Kingdom native was one of three Cougars to score in the championship game and increase Genesee's win streak to 8 games and improve its unbeaten string to 17 as the team heads for Nationals.
